Removal of varicose veins, capillaries, spider veins
Varicose veins are not only an aesthetic problem – the feeling of heaviness in the legs, swelling, calf cramps are the first symptoms of venous insufficiency. Predispositions to formation of varicose veins are hereditary. The disease more often affects women. Often, first symptoms appear in pregnant women. Factors such as standing work, overweight, poor diet, also have an impact on formation of varicose veins. The lower limbs are supplied by superficial and deep veins. The veins have valves, damage of which leads to formation of varicose veins.
Appearance of varicose veins should be treated and cured as a disorder of the entire venous system. Both varicose vein treatment and prophylaxis are important. We offer comprehensive treatment of venous changes in our Clinic. Before the treatment, we perform a Doppler examination of the venous system. This is an ultrasound examination which determines blood flow in vessels and allows to detect its disorders. Based on the results of the examination, we qualify the patient for a specific treatment method. For removal of varicose veins, we use sclerotherapy and laser treatments.
Obliteration, i.e. sclerotherapy, involves injecting the drug into the lumen of the vein in order to induce local endothelial damage and seal varicose veins due to fibrosis. Indications for obliteration are spider veins and varicose veins with diameters from a few to a dozen or so millimeters. In case of larger varicose veins, a special foam is used in order to remove them. The treatment is not painful, you will feel a few pricks with a thin needle and a gentle burning while administering the drug. After the drug is administered, the leg is wrapped with an elastic band. The band should be worn continuously during the first week after the treatment. On the second week we recommend taking the band off for the night. Immediately after the procedure an hour walk is recommended to rinse the traces of the drug from healthy veins. During one session we treat one limb. In case of a larger number of changes, the procedure is carried out in several stages. For a period of a few weeks after the treatment, bruises may be visible at the course of the removed veins and insertion area.
Laser removal of varicose veins is performed percutaneously. The laser beam penetrating the vessel destroys the hemoglobin contained in the blood, leading to closure of the vessel. Due to appropriate setting of treatment parameters, damage to surrounding tissues is minimized. Laser method is used to remove vessels not only within the lower limbs, as in the case of sclerotherapy, but also in other parts of the body. Burning and pricking can be experienced during the treatment. After the treatment the area is red, bruised and swollen. These traces may persist up to several weeks after the procedure. Thanks to the treatments which remove varicose veins within several minutes, it is possible to remove the annoying changes for many years. We advise our patients to undergo annual periodic examinations, in order to prevent occurrence of new lesions and to treat changes in the early stages.
